Hello Faithful Crop Suey Readers!! It's Jenny here checking in with today's scrappy post. I want you to take a trip back, back to the days to the days when you first started scrapping. It could be back in high schol when you were cutting things out of magazines and using your glue stick to put together a fun little memory book. Or it could be back in the day when you had your first child and started creating one of those darn Baby Books every other perfect mom was doing in their spare time, wink. Think about some of those first tools you used. Do you remember deco edge scissors and the punches? Well, I do and I still use them. Especially my punches.

Punches seemed to fall out of favor a bit when the bigger, more lumpy embellishments hit the paper crafting market. They still hold a special part in my paper & glue heart. But, how to keep them current?!? I'm sure you are a bit like me and love a bit of lump on your pages. Pull out those punches and start layering them and popping them up.

For this first one I diecut kites, two for each one pictured here. Folded the top one down the midline and adhered it to another to give my kites & page some lift off...

For this sample, I first stamped and then punched my stars. I adhered their centers askew and curled up the edges. Like so...

Love me some butterflies. They were layered and stapled at the midline here. These ones look almost as if they will just flutter away...

More stars here. For these ones I actually used 3 stars, all different patterns and adhered the backs to each other...

Now, these are lumpy...

Circles are great for flower centers. But you just HAVE to pop them up (same method as the above stars)...

HOMEMADE Taco Tortilla Bowls! :)

Homemade Taco Tortilla Bowls

*Serves 6

6 burrito-size flour tortillas
Olive oil or Canola oil
6 oven-safe cups or canning jars

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. On a rimmed baking sheet, place the cups or jars upside down, evenly spacing them to make room for the tortillas that will be draped over them.

Microwave the tortillas for about 30 seconds, until they are soft and pliable. Rub a teaspoon or so of oil on the front and back of the tortilla. I used my fingers so that I could make sure to coat the entire surface of the tortilla. It doesn’t need to be a heavy coating of oil, just enough to help the tortilla crisp up and not stick to the jar or cup. Drape each tortilla over a cup or jar (I found that the tall jelly/jam jars I had sitting in my cupboard worked great, but my friend Lesli uses oven-safe tea cups and gets great results, too). I softly pressed the sides down a bit to help them form more of a bowl shape.

Bake the tortilla bowls for about 8-10 minutes, checking often so they don’t burn, until the tortillas are nicely browned and crisp. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the tortillas cool for a few minutes before gently removing them from the cups or jars.

I had this in my schedule for July - so silly of me....so this is late! 

 Well, for those who don't know me I am Natalie from the UK.  Here are some random facts about me: 

i love cheese :)
i am a secret hoarder of things - well they might have a use one day!!
i really dislike black jelly babies
i LOVE thunderstorms and really heavy rain
i love to use paint in my creations
i was born and grew up in Scotland
i dream about visiting New York
i detest going to the cinema - it's the rustling and talking...i get like that at home too
i made the best lemon cupcakes last week

Oatmeal Pancake Mix to DIE FOR!

Oatmeal Pancake Mix

*Note (added 3/2011): I’ve updated this recipe several times to reflect that I generally use 100% whole wheat flour (five cups total, instead of using 2 cups of all-purpose flour). I prefer white wheat flour, although red wheat could be used and will lend an even heartier taste to the mix. Also, I made it the other day and before I added the oats to the mix, I threw them in my blender (yep, blender) and pulverized them to a powder. We loved the result! Loved it. Although the texture with the unblended oats is fantastic in it’s own right, blending the oats lends a smooth texture to the mix and finished pancakes. I’ll be doing it that way from now on!

*Makes 10 cups of dry mix

3 1/2 cups rolled (quick) oats
3 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons baking powder
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 cup vegetable or canola oil

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a mixer with a paddle (or by hand). If desired, grind the oats in a blender or food processor before adding to the other dry ingredients for a smoother mix. With mixer on slow speed (or gently by hand), drizzle the vegetable oil into the bowl slowly while the mixer is running. When all the oil has been added, stop the mixer and squeeze a clump of mix in your hand. If it stays together, it is just right. If it is still crumbly, add another tablespoon of oil at a time until the consistency is correct (I’ve never had to add additional oil). Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks at room temperature or indefinitely in the refrigerator or freezer.

To make the pancakes: whisk together 1 cup of mix, 1 cup buttermilk (a combination of half plain yogurt and half milk will also work), and 1 egg. The mixture may seem thin at first but the oats will soak up the milk as it stands while the griddle preheats. Heat a griddle and drop the batter onto it. When the edges look dry and bubbles come to the surface and don’t break, turn the pancake over to finish cooking on the second side. As a sidenote, buttermilk can be frozen indefinitely for future batches of pancakes, so it’s worth keeping it around!

*1 cup of mix will make about 6-7 4-inch pancakes.

THE BEST....EVER!!!

SWEET & SOUR CHICKEN

*Note: if you like extra sauce, double the sauce ingredients – pour half over the chicken and follow the baking directions in the recipe and pour the other half in a small saucepan. Cook the sauce on the stovetop at a simmer for 8-10 minutes until it reduces and thickens. Serve it on the side of the chicken.

*Serves 4-6

Chicken:
3-4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Salt and pepper
1 cup cornstarch
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup canola oil

Cut boneless chicken breasts into chunks. Season with salt and pepper. Dip chicken in cornstarch and then in egg. Fry in a little oil until brown but not cooked through. Place in a single layer in a baking dish. Mix sauce ingredients (below) together and pour over chicken.

Sauce:
¾ cup sugar
4 tablespoons ketchup
½ cup vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon garlic salt

Bake for one hour at 325 degrees. Turn chicken every 15 minutes so it is evenly coated with the sauce. Serve over rice.

This is a stick up!

Hello faithful Crop Suey-ers!! Time for another tutorial! This one is about making your own stick pin embellishments, using various items you already have in your stash as well as your punches! I know you have 'em and probably aren't using them much anymore. Am I right?

Your die cuts will work well for this too!

Other things you'll need are Floral pins like these ones. I found them at JoAnn's in the floral department. I know, go figure!?

They're long. Like 3" or so.

If you have needle-nose pliers with a cutting edge, or tin snips or even just an old pair of scissors that are already dull to cut the ball off the end, that would be good too.

Next thing to do is punch a bunch of the shape(s) you want to use. Punch them out of patterned paper for a real purty look. Once you've done that, you can use the adhesive of your choice to layer up several pieces of the same shape. I find that three layers is good.

Once they're stuck nice and firm and all squared up around the edges I lay them on wax paper or the back side of cutting mat (cuz I don't have a Splat Mat, as much as I wish I did) and cover the top surface with Glossy Accents or Diamond Glaze. Then you need to let them dry for awhile. If you don't wait long enough, you'll leave your fingerprints in the surface of the Diamond Glaze and they how will you get away with this crime??

This is a good time to add some sparkle in the form of glitter if you're into that sort of thing. If you're not, I totally know where you're coming from! This was sort of an exception for me - adding the glitter to the snowflakes. Sometimes you just have to make an exception to your firmly held principles.

Now it's time to turn on the hot glue gun. And pull out of your stash anything else you'd like to glue to the head of a pin for sticking on a card or a scrapbook page.

Things like small chipboard shapes (already finished with a pretty design), larger-ish metal brads (wiggle the backs until they break right off), plastic "button" shapes, or whatever strikes your fancy!

Right!? How cute are these!?

Now it's time to glue the pins on the back. Just like this. Not too hard.

Here's a few of the ones I made:

(Y'all can just ignore that glue strand that I didn't see until I looked at the pictures on my computer. Dang pesky glue strands.)

And here's a couple of examples where I used the stick pins to embellish a card or layout.

Baked Banana Bread Oatmeal

Makes 1 serving

Ingredients:

1/2 banana, mashed
1/2 cup dry cooking oats
1 cup water
3 T liquid egg whites
1 T sugar-free Torani Enlish Toffee syrup
sugar substitute to taste
6 large walnut halves, broken
1/8 t baking powder

Directions:

Mash banana. Mix with other ingredients. Spray oven-proof bowl with cooking spray. Pour oatmeal batter in to it. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Enjoy!

I am very honoured to be working as a DT at Crop Suey. I have played along in their challenges for awhile now and have always loved them.

I am a challenge junkie and participate in as many as I can. I have 2 girls ages 13 and 15 and work full time as a grade 1 teacher. I have a few DT assignments that keep me busy and I try to make time for myself by running or playing in my scraproom.

I have been lucky to have had some of my items published and I hope to continue with that. I look forward to this term with Crop Suey and can’t wait to see what everyone does with our challenges!

NORINE BORYS!!

Hi Crop Suey friends!! Let me start off by saying how completely delighted I am to be back on the CS design team for a 2nd term!! Not much has changed since the last time Mia introduced me...

I am still mom to 4+1 kids, 1 girl (26) and 3 boys (24, (married), 20, 18) and wife to Paul for the last 29 years!

We are transplanted Canadians living in AZ since 2008, and my interests still include reading, scrap-booking, vacations, travel (not always the same thing), food - cooking and eating thereof, especially desserts that tend towards chocolate, snowboarding, languages, and summers at the cottage in Northern Ontario.

Things that do not interest me much are skydiving, math, sweating, cleaning bathrooms and figuring out technology. I've been scrap-booking since 1997 so I've seen a couple of trends come, go and come back again!

As usual Mia has some crazy-awesome challenges lined up for the next 6 months so I'm excited to get started!!

i started scrapbooking about 3 years ago, at which time, i insisted i would never become one of those crazy scrappers who shops too much and spends way to much time getting down and dirty in their scrap room making huge messes that never get cleaned up. soooooo........um, yeah, about that....oops.

i plan to start working in the natural health care field very soon, soon, soon. as soon as i can find time :) and perhaps some motivation, and um the ability to rip myself from my scrap room, and um maybe clean it up a little?

the only way i can describe my scrappy style is random and messy. sometimes less random, sometimes less messy but usually a variation of the two...i just do what i do and i don't know that there is a better way to describe it...

we're a pretty laid back, easy going and fun family. i like being a part of this household :) my hubby is a gem, truly, i have no idea how i got so lucky...sure wasn't anything i ever did! he is kind and sweet and fun and funny and sensitive and caring and rough and tough all man too. my little man is my personality thru and thru so we, um, might butt heads a bit (how the hell can anyone live with me?!!! hahaahah!!!!) but he looks just like his dad so at least i'm not looking in a mirror while we fight, lol!!!

and i have one more love ~ reading. *sweet sweet books*

I am a molecular biologist by day and a busy mom, wife, and paper crafter at night.

I live in Southern California with my 2 kids, my homebrewing husband and our escape artist hamster.

I love to scrap and make layouts, cards, altered stuff, home decor, and gift bags.

I am also an avid baker and you will find a mix of paper stuff and flour and sugar stuff on my blog.

In my spare time I like to bake and eat and workout and generally run around after my family with my camera.

Hi all! I’m Jenny Dziekan, better known as scrappinjen or scrappinjenoffive on boards around the web. I’ve been scrapping for REAL since the birth of my oldest son, 10 years ago.

I started playing with pictures and pretty papers and glue waaay back in high school. My ever growing up-way- too- fast brood of FIVE keeps me motivated to scrap so that we can always remember these precious days of ours. With a hubby who flies airplanes off an aircraft carrier in various warzones, making memories and recording them is all that much more precious to all of us.

I’m a former special ed teacher turned SAHM mom (or rather SAHM running kids to and fro in my bus) about to return to teaching kind of gal. My favorite manufacturer is Sassafras. I’m so serious in my love for this company that my younger daughter is nicknamed Sass, no, seriously.

I love to make hand made roses from scraps of fabric or ribbon :) This one is made from a pink spotty ribbon scrap!!

I cut stars from scraps and used them as masks.

I used some of my many bits of rubons that I keep. I layered many rubons from Basic Grey and some mismatch alphabet scrap rubons. Also had a scrap piece of bingo card and bits of scraps for the edge paper.

I punched circles from my scraps to make these spiral flowers!!

Norine

I made a card for this challenge. I used up a bunch of scraps of ribbon too - bonus!!

The embellishments I made are the spiral flower and the stick pin butterflies. I love the idea of stick pin embellies, but find the bulk is often more than I want in an album or card envelope, so I pulled out my mini punches and used the Fiskars butterfly one to punch several butterflies. Then I layered them up, hot glued them sandwiching a stick pin between 2 layers, then coated them in Diamond Glaze and this is the result.

I like it fine and will be making more, you can be sure! Stars, flowers, and hearts just for a start!

I made handmade flowers my cutting scalloped spirals and the twisting them around a small tip. I used an Imaginisce petal roller but you could use anything small to roll it around. Check back later this month for a few tips on making homeade flowers.

At this time, I am looking to add a “TUTORIAL GURU” to the team ~ so this is someone who is willing and able to post 1 tutorial/month on our blog OR else, if the opportunity presents itself, I would consider adding TWO to the team and having them (you?) alternate months so it would be once every second month J

Also, looking to add to our DT! Each DT member will be responsible for one challenge each month, due on the 1st of each month. There is no guaranteed compensation at this time unless I have sponsors that are willing to sponsor our DT for each individual month. (*hint* ~ at this time, I have sponsors lined up for months and months, so compensation will actually be pretty awesome, but not guaranteed each month)

Each DT member is also responsible for one ‘post’ during the 6 month term, this post can be whatever you want it to be but you are expected to do one during your term!

Stamps scare me. I think they are totally cute, don't get me wrong! But working with stamps is a whole other thing than thinking they are totally cute! LOL.

So this post is about tackling stamps. Taking the fear outta of them and just plain using them on projects! Not a big feat for stampers, but for peeps like me, its HUGE!!!!

For me this was really out of my box, but as you can see it wasn't all that bad! So if you're like me and don't often stamp take them out and try them!!!

Cream Cheese Chicken (Slow Cooker)

Yum, Yum, Yum, and Yum!!!!!!

Cream Cheese Chicken (Slow Cooker)
--2 cups (homemadeif you have) mushroom soup
--frozen chicken--enough to feed four adults
--2 T Italian seasoning
--1/2 t celery seed
--1 T onion powder
--1 T sugar
--1/4 t black pepper
--1 t kosher salt
--2 cloves minced garlic (i use the minced garlic in a jar cuz i'm lazy)
--block of cream cheese (save for later!)

Put everything except for the cream cheese into the crockpot. Cook on low for 6 hours, or until the chicken is cooked through and begins to shred. Shred the chicken with two large forks, and mix in the block of cream cheese. Switch the crock to high and cook for another 30 minutes, or until the cream cheese is fully melted.
Serve over pasta.

Hello ladies - Natalie here and i am here to make you get messy!!

I am in no way a traditional scrapper - i love paint and i love to make a mess. I use all sorts - cheap poster paints from the supermarket; acrylic paints from the art store to free mini pots from hardware stores!

What i love about paint is that it is so versatile: it can be used to create great unique backgrounds by just painting on cardstock:

You can create splatter backgrounds:

You can use it mask shapes, stamp (with cookie cutters :) etc.), frame photos and cardstock..

or just to have some fun and scrap with your kids!! :)

Right - now i have a challenge for you lovely ladies and gents.....and for a wee prize too!!! Ooooooooohhh :) :) :)

During a few of my dreary snow days, I pulled out my neglected Halloween pictures and finally decided to scrap them. I hadn't even bought new Halloween paper last year because I still had so much left from 2009! (It's a sickness, I know) So, I pulled out that awesome Pink Paislee stuff and USED it! What I created definitely sticks to my super simple linear style and more importantly, the pics are now scrapped! One page for each of my kiddo's albums plus pages for the family album. Halloween 2010 was lots of fun. Maybe I'll even buy new paper for Halloween 2011?! :)

Recipe!!! ~ American Chop Suey

My family LOVES this recipe!!! Hope you give it a try, it's supa easy ;)

AMERICAN CHOP SUEY (Slow Cooker)

1 pound lean ground beef, browned and drained
5 bacon strips, diced
1 large onion, diced
1 green bell pepper, seeded and diced
1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes --- any flavor, or plain
1 can water (empty tomato can)
6 garlic cloves, chopped
1 (26-ounce) jar prepared pasta sauce
1 (16-ounce) package elbow macaroni
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

The Directions.

Use a 6-quart slow cooker. In a large skillet, brown the beef, bacon and onion all together until the meat is no longer pink. Drain well and plop into your slow cooker. Add everything else into the pot except for the pasta and cheese.
Stir to combine. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours, or high for about 4. Stir in the raw pasta and cook on high for approximately 30 minutes, or until pasta is bite-tender. Serve in a wide-mouthed bowl with a handful of cheese on each serving.

Kicking it old school!

Hi everybody! Norine here today, bringing you a blast from the past!

So, I don't know if any of you are old enough to actually remember this stuff, but my Dad used to plaster it on anything that didn't move. He thought it gave everything a touch of class or something!

And since nothing is new under the sun, and what goes round comes around, and what goes up must come down, and a stitch in time saves nine....it's time to renew the possibilities of MACTAC! (That's what it was called back in the day, but what I found at Home Depot was called ConTact.)

For you youngsters who have no idea what I'm talking about, it's basically shelf paper. You peel a sticky backing off and it sticks to most anything. And then you can peel it off and restick it again. It's kind of magic like that.

The first thing I started doing with it was cutting stuff with my Cricut. Shapes and shapes and then some more shapes. And using them on scrapbook pages. There were these ones....

And more recently, this one....?I used some shapes on a couple of cards.....Then I covered a composition notebook....I think this is going to make a fab gift to my sister-in-law who gardens. She can use it to keep track of how many barrow-fulls of sheep manure she used on the rutabagas this year. Riveting stuff like that, y'know?And then I began to cast my eye around (in much the same way my dad must have done) to see what else I could stick this stuff on...

At first I thought...mmmm, covering a kleenex box with woodgrain shelf paper....that might be veering a little too close to the edge of hokey....

but y'know what??? I kinda think it works!?!?

And then I thought, for the purposes of being totally tongue in cheek, and so y'alls don't think my taste is only in my mouth....I looked for something completely silly to cover in MacTac.

I thought, how funny would it be to cover a cat in woodgrain shelf paper!!! Lucky for catkind, I don't have one.

But then I thought, how about silverware!!! But DANG! if that didn't turn out cute also!? So I dunno, I think I've come to the same conclusion my dad did. Pretty much ANYthing can be improved with MacTac!

Ribbon Ribbon Ribbon....

If you are like me, you have way too much ribbon...but, you still want more and when you get it, you gush over it...right? One of our past sponsors, May Arts Ribbon sent some samples to Crop Suey and I was lucky enough to get some. Check out their store, they have so much ribbon it is amazing...and yeah, you need more!!!

I used the wide grossgrain pink and pink satin they sent to create this. I made a double knot with the darker pink to create this cool look.

I also used several short pieces of narrow ribbon to create my flower in the top right of the layout. I just tied it once and kept layering it. It is definitely a great way to use up that ribbon so you can buy more!!!

So, today is Christmas...so seems weird to not at least say MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone...even though, this is just a regularly old scheduled blog post for the 25th of the month. {{lol}} So Merry Merry Merry and all that good stuff :) :) :)

Take Out ~ Spicy Peanut Chicken

I *think* I might have ~stole~ this recipe from Rachael Ray. (I have the most brutal memory on earth, though. Anyway, I am crediting her, cuz heck, why not.)

Anyway, I have to admit that I am always leary about trying these kinds of recipes cuz they ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS disappoint me. *insert sad face here* This one DID NOT. It is sooo good and a total fave in this house, my 12 year old son gobbles it up like crazy too. Total bonus! So try it, it's awesome. I promise.

1 cup rice (cooked)
3 T oil
1 ½ lbs chicken, diced
1 red pepper, diced
Salt & pepper
4 cloves minced garlic
1” ginger root, minced
¼ cup peanut butter
¼ cup soya
½ cup chicken stock
1 T chili paste
1 cup unsalted dry roasted peanuts

Heat oil. Stir fry chicken until cooked. Add peppers and fry until cooked. Remove.

Saute ginger and garlic for 15 seconds. Add peanut butter, soya, stock, chili. Stir to combine.

Add chicken, peppers and nuts. Stir. Serve over rice.

*I used sesame seeds in place of peanuts*

Quick and easy Christmas ornaments

Here is an idea for easy quick ornaments using your paper scraps. These scraps are from the MM Mistletoe collection from last year and I had saved small pieces just for this idea (yeah, right!!!)
I used a 2 inch circle cutter, but you can use any size you want. If you have double sided paper, then it is really quick, but if it is one sided, that's ok, because you just need to glue one side to the other.

Fold the circle in half and take two circles and use quick dry glue to join the folded circle together at the folds. Once dry, open them up

Use ribbon or string to add hangers. You can also use stickles or glitter if you want. How easy is that???

Pepperoni Spiral Bake

Here is a nice, quick, easy fave from my house to yours :) Hope you are able to give it a try and that you love it, too!!!

Spiral Pepperoni Pizza Bake

1 Pcg (16 oz) spiral pasta
2 Lbs ground beef
1 Lg onion - chopped
1 Tsp salt
1/2 Tsp pepper
2 Cans (15 oz each) pizza sauce
1/2 Tsp garlic salt
1/2 Tsp italian seasoning
2 Eggs
2 Cups milk
1/2 Cup shredded parmesan cheese
4 Cups shredded mozzarella
1 Pckg (3-4 oz) sliced pepperoni

Cook pasta according to directions. While that is cooking, in a large sauce pan, cook beef, onion, salt and pepper until meat is cooked through. Stir in the pizza sauce, garlic salt and Italian seasoning. Set aside.

In a small bowl, combine the eggs, milk and parmesan cheese. Drain the pasta. Toss with the egg mixture. Put pasta into a greased baking dish. Top with beef mixture, mozzarella cheese and pepperoni.

Cover and bake at 350 for about 20 minutes, then uncover and bake for about another 20 - 25 minutes until the cheese is a golden brown.

Fabric Tape and Ribbon Storage Stacy's Post

Hello Everyone!

I am so excited to be doing this DT blog post. I hope everyone is enjoying this month's challenge and I am just loving what I am seeing!

For my post I decided to do a little tutorial on fabric tape. I thought that since the lucky winner of this month's challenge will receive a huge selection of beautiful ribbon from May Arts that I would do a little tutorial on using your ribbon! I have been seeing so many beautiful fabric tape out there and have been having a hard time finding some in my local stores so I decided to try my hand at making my own. I am showing you a very super easy peasy method and I will link a few other great tutorials for a few other methods.

Supplies Needed:
* ribbon/fabric (dig in your left over stash as this is a great way to use them up)
* a Xyron sticker maker
* scissors
* bone folder (optional but it really helps)

Step 1: Cut strips of fabric or ribbon that will fit in your sticker maker (mine is the 1.5" wide)

Step 2: Place your ribbon/fabric strips into your Xyron and pull the sticker roll out and tear your fabric sticker out

Step 3: Using your bone folder or finger rub the sticker and peel the clear top sticker off

Step 4: Voila! Use it on your projects! Easy peasy!!

How do you all organize your ribbons? I know the lucky winner of this month's challenge will be finding herself (or himself) in a pickle as what to do with all that ribbon so I thought I would share how I organize mine (since I have soooo much!).

I have tried many different ways and this way works the best for me. Sorry picture isn't very pretty.

What you will need:

* some kind of rack - I bought mine at Dollarama so super cheap!

* binder rings

* safety pins

* ribbon

* big ziplock bag

* binder clip

* hair straightner or iron

Step 1: organize your ribbon by colour (if you want) and take them off the spool if they are on one.

Step 2: If the piece was shorter than 1' I put them in the ziplock bag and if it was longer I ironed it (using my hair straightner :) Note: for the ziplock bag just open the binder ring and loop on the handle of the binder clip and clip onto ziplock.

Step 3: If they are super long, fold in half a few times and use the safety pin to pin them together or just pin the end if it's not too long

Step 4: put all like colours on one binder ring and hang.

I really love this idea as all my ribbon are sorted by colour which help and they are not wrinkled and stay wrinkle free. And all my little bits and pieces go in the bag.

Homemade Glimmer Glam/ Glaze Tutorial

Are you ladies ready to get your Glimmer on?!

I absolutely LOVE the Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze/ Glam but find that here in Canada, they can be a tad pricey for such a little jar of it.
So I figured....why not create my own!!
And I must say, the colors I made turned out FABULOUS!

Here is what you need to get started:
Glitter/Glimmer
Glazing Medium
Paint
Water
Little Jar

Here I am using a 2oz. bottle of regular craft paint.
Pour about 3/4 of the craft paint into your jar.

Then add about 2 - 3 oz. of glazing medium.

I dont have an exact amount of how much sparkles you should add.
The more Glimmer ya want, add lots.
The less ya want, add less.
Fill the rest with water to the top.

Mix is all up with a paintbrush and shake it all up too and ta-da!!
You've got your own Glimmer Glam/ Glaze

I have created 7 different ones so far and LOVE working with them.
The pink one I made is my favorite, but its not in this picture LOL!!

These pictures dont even do it justice!!
These homemade Glimmer Glam/ Glazes are so shiny and have so much sparkle to them.
The glitter I have used in all of them is both chunky and fine glitter and they sparkle like crazy!

Nope, not justice at all LOL!!
In person it is sooo much more glittery.

Well everyone, I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial.

The sparkle is much more vibrant in person.

Pinwheel Flower Tutorial ~ by Sharon

Hi everyone- the "flower queen" has arrived!! lol. I do love flowers, mostly I love to experiment! For the layout I did, I actually printed up some digital papers that I loved so much from Kiki Halbert ("Burst into Spring")

I printed out several of the papers that are in this collection, using a medium weight matte paper.

I made a pinwheel which is super easy and cute. Cut a square- I used 2 in and 1 1/2 inches, then I cut at each corner about 1/3 of the way to the center. You can cut any size you want, depending on how big you want your flower.

Since this is single sided paper, I sprayed glimmer mist on the white side.

Pinwheels are very easy to make. Just wrap alternating corners around a pencil so that it curls. I also used a heat gun which helped hold the curl- but be very careful- it is hot!!! I added buttons as centers.

Here are close ups of one of the pinwheels on the layout:

I used Bazzill dotted swiss as the background- so yummy!! I added ribbon and used staples for decoration. To finish the layout, I took a picture, uploaded it to my computer and digitally added text to the layout.("sweet" is Pink Paislee chipboard) That is so easy and you don't have to worry about your handwriting if it isn't the best. I love that!!

So, something new for Crop Suey ~~ each month, on the 25th, I will be posting a recipe...not a scrappy recipe, nope. An actual recipe with ingredients that you EAT :) That's right, something different and something fun.

Oh, and every recipe I post will be a tried, tested and true from my house to yours!

Chicken & Broccoli Casserole

1st Layer:
2-3 chicken breasts, cooked and cut into 4 or so pieces.

2nd Layer:
Broccoli (use frozen, use fresh, add cauliflour, carrots, whatever, just go for it!)

3rd Layer:
Mix together and add:
1 can creamed soup (I usually use mushroom, but use whatever you want!)
1/4 cup mayo or miracle whip
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 tsp curry (don't skip this, so yummy!)
1/4 cup milk

4th Layer:
Croutons

Bake @ 375 degrees for 45 minutes. So creamy, so scrumptious :)

Today I am so excited for you to *meet* my 'Co~Conspirator' in this Crop Suey venture, Stacy Pietryszyn!!!!

My love for paper started at a very young age when my mom gave me some glue, scissors and some paper. I have been crafting for as long as I can remember. Helped to have a creative mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who where frugal and kept everything and saw the potential in every bit of scrap fabric, paper, packaging or just about anything. I owe my craft-y-ness to those three women. I have fond memories of my grandmother and I collecting images from magazines that reminded us of our yearly trip to Quebec to visit family and gluing them down to a big scrapbook (you know the old newspaper style pages). Because of this craftyness I started as an adult to always make birthday and Christmas gifts.

In search of a great gift to give my boyfriend (now hubby) I ventured to my local craft store in 2002 and found a pack of patterned paper and some stickers. I made him for Christmas an album of 'our story' which started with our first date and so on and then it was pure addiction from then on. I LOVE paper. Going into a scrapbook store and seeing all the paper is my art gallery.

I don't have a style as I find it is ever evolving and it all depends on my mood on that day. I typically love vintage elements, love to make my own embellishments and do spend alot of time on a project. I think the fastest page I ever did took me 4 hours - which is super quick as it usually takes me at least two evenings to complete a page. I am a planner and usually draw a sketch for my pages and plan every detail.

I do have a great subject to scrap (my three year old son) and am never short of a great picture as my hubby is a photographer. I have been having less time to scrap lately as my son keeps me busy.

I also work full time and have started a small not-for-profit stationary/gift wrapping business where all the proceeds will go towards the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes. My son was diagnosed last year with type 1 and I am so thankful for scrapping and paper crafting as it has been my refuge of the daily struggles with balancing his sugars. haha! i decided i would introduce myself somewhat officially while we were doing the dt bio's :) just so you can all get to know me a little bit!

my name is mia clarke and i am a sahm to my 11 year old son. basically what i do is run from sport to sport to sport all winter long :) he is a centreman for his hockey team, running back for his football team, swims on a competitive team and plays on a basketball team too :) Basically, if you add it all up, it is TWELVE places to be in a week. Good thing I adore that kid huh? :)

i started scrapbooking about 1.5 years ago, i insisted i would never become one of those crazy scrappers who shops too much and spends way to much time getting down and dirty in their scrap room making huge messes that never get cleaned up. soooooo........um, yeah, about that....oops.

i am on the verge about going back to work and using some of my hard earned education :) lol, i plan to start working in the natural health care field very soon, soon, soon. as soon as i can find time :) and perhaps some motivation, and um the ability to rip myself from my scrap room, and um maybe clean it up a little?

the only way i can describe my scrappy style is random and messy. sometimes less random, sometimes less messy but usually a variation of the two...i just do what i do and i don't know that there is a better way to describe it...

we're a pretty laid back, easy going and fun family. i like being a part of this household :) my hubby is a gem, truly, i have no idea how i got so lucky...sure wasn't anything i ever did! he is kind and sweet and fun and funny and sensitive and caring and rough and tough all man too. my little man is my personality thru and thru so we, um, might butt heads a bit (how the hell can anyone live with me?!!! hahaahah!!!!) but he looks just like his dad.

and i have one more love ~ reading. *sweet sweet books*

My name is Natalie (Call me Nat!) I fell in love with scrapbooking in 2009, when i discovered everything!

I discovered that paper stroking and sniffing in the scrapping world is normal and that to hoarde vast quantities of "stash" in a "scrap room" is perfectly acceptable.

I was born in Scotland, moved to England in 2005, work as a Chemistry Teacher, have one truly scrumptious son and a very supportive partner, who has, on occasion scrapped (although he will never admit to it!).
I teach scrapbooking classes to Year 7 (11yrs) Students at my school. We have a lot of fun and the kids have such wonderful ideas.

Scrapbooking is my therapy, my escape from family life and work stresses and my inspiration for everything scrapbook related is my 4 year old son.

I don't really have a set style or follow any rules or trends (rebel seems to be my middle name, not sure if this is a good thing though!) I pick my colours, patterns and I simply go where my creative juices take me.

First let me say, I am THRILLED to be asked to be a member of the New Crop Suey Design Team!!! (Love all the caps, they make things so much more important sounding, doncha think?) I know Mia from the intranets - this girl gets around, lemme tell ya, (*AHEM* this is Mia here and I just need to interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to letcha know that when she says 'gets around' that she doesn't mean it like...you know {{lol}}!!!) and I'm totally TOTALLY looking forward to working with her and the rest of the fabulous talent she's hand-picked!!

I am mom to 4+1 kids, 1 girl (26) and 3 boys (24, (married), 20, 18) and wife to Paul for the last 28 years! We are transplanted Canadians living in AZ since 2008. My interests include reading, scrap-booking, vacations, travel (not always the same thing), food - cooking and eating thereof, especially desserts that tend towards chocolate, snowboarding, languages, and summers at the cottage in Northern Ontario.

Things that do not interest me are skydiving, working for a living, math, sweating, cleaning (the house that is. Don't worry, my personal hygiene levels are quite acceptable) shopping for clothes and figuring out technology. Heather baby! Well ladies, today I am introducing you to Heather Leopard, another uber talented member of our Crop Suey DT! Her layers and fun style just make me happy! Total bonus that her kids are freakin' adorable!! I also love the way she uses so much of the page! LOVE it, welcome to the team Heather, I'm so excited to see what you create for us!!!

I work in marketing for a major computer company but my family always comes first. My hubby and I were engaged for only 3 days before we were married in St. Lucia, West Indies in 2002. I have a fantabulous step-son; we had our first daughter just 11 months later and welcomed our second daughter 5 years after our first. My kids are my muses.

I've been scrapping for about 8 years but got really serious about a year ago...I have a lot of catching up to do.

A few tidbits about me: I'm a HUGE Rob Thomas fan! I love to dive all over the world, even when it means a random encounter with hammerhead sharks. As a Native Texan I love to drink Big Red or split tea (1/2 sweet, ½ unsweet) and Blue Bell is the only ice cream I eat.

I refer to all carbonated drinks as a Coke, not soda or pop. Just Coke. I can twist my tongue into a 3 leaf clover. I often find myself still listening to the Disney channel long after my children have left the room.

I've never been one to talk on the phone and when someone's telling me what I consider to be too long of a story I tune out just enough to still understand the entire conversation. Shhh, don't tell anyone. :)

3 Scrappy Boys DT Call

Hello ladies!!! I am posting the 3 Scrappy Boys DT call here because not only is it one of my very favourite places to hang out, but also that Heather, the owner is a fabulous gal with a knack for making some super great kits, too!!!! Anyway, if you are interested in either applying or even just joining to forum and hanging out with us over there, here is the info!!!

3 Scrappy Boys is taking applications for several positions on our Design Team.
Design Team Requirements:

• 3SBDT members will receive one free kit every other month and will use the kit for designing layouts, cards, projects etc. On the month the 3SB DT member receives their kit, a minimum of 3 layouts must be submitted and 1 card, or comparable projects must be uploaded to the appropriate place in the gallery. The kit should be used to its fullest extent.

• 3SBDT members will contribute to a monthly newsletter. Members will rotate assignments which will include but not be limited to technique articles, product spotlights, seasonal and holiday ideas, altered project ideas, etc. Those members that are not on “kit cycle” may also contribute to the newsletter as they are able.

• 3SBDT members will maintain a daily presence on the message board and gallery. This includes initiating discussions, responding in discussions, leaving gallery feedback and uploading non-DT work to the member’s own gallery.

• 3SBDT members will be required to participate in a maximum of 1 large online crop during their term. Depending on the work required for the crop, extra compensation may be given.

• 3SBDT members will be required to post 1 kit challenge on their assigned month.

• 3SBDT members will be required to lead various other small challenges and contests (i.e. layouts of the day, mini stash challenges, etc)

• 3SBDT members will promote 3SB on Willow Traders, Kit Peas and other message boards that are not in direct competition with 3 SB. 3SBDT will also be required to post to both the 3SB blog and facebook page.

• 3SBDT members may be on other DTs but may not promote the companies they work for on the 3 SB forums unless the other company is a manufacturer or other business not in direct competition with 3 SB.

• 3SBDT members are asked to post kit reveals and peaks of their DT work with 3SB kits on their blogs.

Design Team members will be on a probationary period for 3 months. At the end of the 3 months, assuming there are no issues with team participation, the design team member will be offered a permanent contract for a period of 6 months and will begin receiving a Design Team discount for purchases in the store. DT team members are immediately eligible to purchase kits on their “off-cycle” months at a discount of 25% off.

To apply, please send the following to heather@3scrappyboys.com :
o 5-7 examples of your work including layouts, cards and altered projects
o a list of other design teams you are currently on and have been on in the past. Include the dates you have been involved with other design teams. An email address for a contact person (i.e team leader, business owner, etc) is strongly encouraged.
o links to any of your online galleries

Application deadline is OCTOBER 10th. New members will be notified privately approximately October 15th and will be announced publicly shortly thereafter. New team members will begin their assignment with the November 2010 kits.

so i am over the moon thrilled and excited to share our new dt with you!! i had close to 50 very talented ladies apply and i am so blown away by the talent that is out there! i originally planned on having a team of 6 and really should have known better cuz {{{{LOL}}} yeah right!!!

just been working on the blog a little bit but wanted to bring this BIG ANNOUNCEMENT post back up to the top :) :) :)

Sooooooooooooooo, ummm......I am super excited to announce this:

Crop Suey is under NEW OWNERSHIP :) That's right, I am the new girl in town and I could not be more excited about it!!!! EEEEK!!!

We. Are. Going. To. Have. So. Much. Fun!!!

I have so many really fabulous, amazing, gorgeous sponsors lined up for our challenge winners and for our dt as well :) Sooooooooo excited!!!

There will be some changes made to the blog, but I'm not going to reveal all my secrets just yet :) BUT, please do check back often for our big GRAND OPENING and make sure you play along cuz this is going to be an awesome place to hang out :)

Note CROP SUEY is under new “ownership” and is having a DT call! We are starting a fresh new team for our fresh “new” challenge blog!! We are located at www.shopcropsuey.blogspot.com.

Each DT member will be responsible for one challenge each month, due on the 1st of each month. There is no guaranteed compensation at this time unless I have sponsors that are willing to sponsor our DT for each individual month. (*hint* ~ at this time, I have sponsors lined up for months and months, so compensation will actually be pretty awesome, but not guaranteed each month) J
The term will last 6 months and will run from November to the end of April.

All applications can be emailed to miaclarke@persona.ca and must be submitted by midnight EST on August 31st, 2010. All new members will be notified via email by September 6th.
